So a friend put this link up in a fantasy baseball league I am in and I had to throw it in the blog, followed by my thoughts.
First, check out the website HERE.
Never go to Fox Sports. Now I see why. I have not been to all these schools, and I doubt she has too, but I gotta throw my two cents in.
I was gonna make a whole Top Ten list but then I have to defend why one team is where. So instead, I'm just gonna mention what makes some of the schools she mentioned so obnoxious.
Florida - Yea, that Gator chop is flat out annoying. Plus, since their fans were spoiled with 3 major championships in a year, they just had this cockiness about them they they are just amazing. It was even evident in their Titletown argument, which wasn't good at all. I thought Spurrier was bad when he was there but this school may be worse now
Tennessee - It actually did not make that list from that Fox Sports girl but man, Rocky Top and orange drive me crazy. Tennessee fans have been annoying since 1998. Yet, they have done nothing on the football field.
Texas - Oh, how did Texas not make the list either? Mack Brown whines all the time when his team isn;t getting credit. Matthew McCoughaney is by far the most annoying celebrity fan on the sidelines, jumping up and down for no reason during games. And "Hook 'em Horns" can be retired soon too, or maybe just don't say it every five seconds.
Notre Dame - The thing with Notre Dame is that they have fans all over the nation. They're called Catholics. And while I have my thoughts on catholicism, I don't think just cause they have the biggets fan base makes them the most obnoxious. Instead, what makes Notre Dame fans obnoxious is Notre Dame. The Irish have their own network. Not their fan's fault. They refuse to enter a conference. Again, not their fault. Some are annoying, leprechauns freak me out, and the Ty Willingham outrage still bugs me but they don't lead the pack.
Nebraska - When did 9 wins and a national title berth mean let's fire the coach? Well, that's Nebraska (and why Frankie Solich is in Athens, OH). Cornhusker fans love their football but they also don't understand how to lose. Get off your high horse and understand your team stinks and cannot win the national title every year. In fact, they prolly won't for a while. You had your run. Give Bo some time to get another going.
Miami (FL) - Also, not on the Fox Sports list which is ludicrous. How many people actually enjoy hearing "The U". Last I checked, your school was riddled with a bunch of arrests and college dropouts. And just like Nebraska, you put unnecessary pressure on your coaches. Yes, you are in a state with a wealth of talent and beautiful weather. But guess what...Bernie ain't there anymore. And you suck.
Michigan - I think what makes Michigan fans annoying is that most of the ones I know in Ohio aren't fans of Michigan but instead, haters of Ohio State. That's not being a fan...and that's annoying in more ways than one. When you argue OSU-Michigan, I would rather one argue FOR their team and not AGAINST the other, but that's all "so-called" Michigan fans can do. Oh, and now that Lloyd Carr is gone, I can't make fun of him being a complete prick to reporters.
Penn State - Only because PSU fans think JoePa is God. Seriously, the guy doesn't even coach anymore. He doesn't have a headset for a reason. He's only there for the looks and to intimidate refs, which is working less and less.
Oklahoma - I hate their fans too. Every year, they complain about being in the national title game. Until last year, the Big 12 has always been Texas vs. OU. So any argument they had when they had a loss just made me mad. Last year when they tried to argue they deserve a shot at OSU, I laughed. Maybe their fans are so annoying because they have nothing else but football in Norman, OK.
USC - By far the worst. Pete Carroll is nothing but a whiner. Their fans are spoiled pricks. Their players seem to find ways to make the news for the wrong reasons (Leinart, Palmer, Bush, etc...). All I know is that I feel like USC fans feel like they are God's gift to football. Well, you're not.
And finally,
OHIO STATE - Even Ohio State fans know they are obnoxious. The O-H-I-O cheer is cool in the stadium when all 4 sides do it. Cool after a game a few times. But over and over and over...yea, that gets old. Plus, OSU fans are known for turning on their team quickly. Once OSU loses, fans turn ugly. The last two years, there weren;t many OSU fans that just said we got out-played. Instead, they pointed fingers left and right at players and coaches. We're fans, not critics. Let the talking heads on TV do that. We should stick to staying behind our team at all costs.
I'd argue about OU fans being obnoxious but well, there aren't enough of us.
