NFL Week 3 Power Rankings

It's a known fact that teams that have started 0-3 have not made the Super Bowl ever. So if you're a betting man, don't bet money on those teams. Unfortunately, that leaves a lot of teams to win it all. So to help you all, I will continue to put out my Power Rankings. It's just one way I'm helping this crazy world we live in. As usual, debate of the rankings is welcome. That's why I do them.

1. Baltimore (3-0) - They've earned their top spot with their offense of all things. Joe Flacco is slinging the ball around and the running game isn't too shabby either. The defense had an easy week against Cleveland but will get a test this week. NEXT @ New England

2. Indianapolis (3-0) - After a couple close ones in the first two weeks, the Colts completely dominated Arizona. While the offense looked strong as usual behind Peyton Manning, it was the defense that was showing off. NEXT vs. Seattle

3. NY Jets (3-0) - I'm not sure what Rex Ryan is telling these guys but it's working. Despite playing teams that seemingly have more talent, the Jets continue to outplay their opponents on both sides of the ball. Can they make it 4-0? NEXT @ New Orleans

4. New England (2-1) - The game they played against Atlanta is the Pats team we've all expected. A defense that bothers the opponent's offensive rhythm and an offense that can run and pass effectively. Tom Brady also had time to throw. NEXT vs. Baltimore

5. Pittsburgh (1-2) - Super Bowl hangover or not, this is still a good team. I truly think this defense misses Troy Polamalu in the secondary. Opponents aren't afraid to throw the ball without he and his hair flying around, being a ballhawk. NEXT vs. San Diego

6. San Diego (2-1) - The Chargers defense not only slowed the Miami offense but knocked Chad Pennington out for the season. So far though, they've won the games they're supposed to win. Now, can they win the games they're not supposed to win? NEXT @ Pittsburgh

7. Cincinnati (2-1) - Break up the Bengals! They should be 3-0! The win over Pittsburgh not only stops the 8-game losing streak but gives them a ton of confidence. Not like they'll need any of it when they face the Browns next week. NEXT @ Cleveland

8. Denver (3-0) - Yes, they're 3-0 and given up just 16 pts in 3 games. But they haven't played anyone. They needed a tipped pass to beat Cincy and since, have played Cleveland and Oakland. The schedule gets tougher starting next week. NEXT vs. Dallas

9. Buffalo (1-2) - Big props to their defense that slowed down the dynamic New Orleans pass offense. Only problem was that their offense couldn't move the ball. Maybe it's because they didn't get the ball to Terrell Owens. Or not. Cry on T.O. NEXT @ Miami

10. Houston (1-2) - The defensive woes continue for the Texans. They gave up 3 TD to Maurice Jones-Drew and never gave the offense a chance to catch up. Until this defense steps up, they will never win more than 8 games in a season. NEXT vs. Houston

11. Tennessee (0-3) - In a game they had to win, the Titans spotted the Jets a 14-0 lead and never recovered. Now, it's panic time in Tennessee just to make the playoffs. There are some wins on the schedule but also some games they need to tough out. NEXT @ Jacksonville

12. Jacksonville (1-2) - For once, the Jaguars played to their potential. Of course, it took an awful Texans defense for that to happen. Jones-Drew is the key to this offense and thanks to him, they put up 31 points. Now, can they do it again? NEXT vs. Tennessee

13. Miami (0-3) - They've lost more than their first 3 games. They've lost their starting QB in Chad Pennington. Now, Chad Henne takes over and while he's got a powerful and accurate arm, he's got no experience. Could be a long season. NEXT vs. Buffalo

14. Oakland (1-2) - I know the Raiders have faith in JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden but I don't. Russell looks like confused and flustered while McFadden can't shake his fumble problem. They're taking step backwards, not forward. NEXT @ Houston

15. Kansas City (0-3) - They were completely manhandled by Philadelphia. I mean, just 90 passing yards from Matt Cassel? This may be a rebuilding year for the team but the big question is, who are they building around? NEXT vs. NY Giants

16. Cleveland (0-3) - The reason they fall to the cellar is because at least the Chiefs don't have a QB problem. It's okay for a team to be bad at defense and then good at offense or vice versa. But this team is terrible in both. Time to think NFL Draft already. NEXT vs. Cincinnati

1. New Orleans (3-0) - Drew Brees didn't go crazy like in the first two games but that's because he didn't need to. The Saints rush attack was great and the defense held Buffalo to 7 points. A good test for them next week in the undefeated Jets. NEXT vs. NY Jets

2. NY Giants (3-0) - It was business as usual for Eli and the gang, as they shutout the Buccaneers with ease. Seems like losing Plaxico hasn't been a problem for the Giants offense one bit. Now, they get to feast on the awful Chiefs defense. NEXT @ Kansas City

3. Minnesota (3-0) - Right when you think the Vikings blew a game at home, Brett Favre throws a dart that wins them the game. Congrats to the Vikes on the win but they have some problems to address on both sides of the ball and special teams. NEXT MON vs. Green Bay

4. Atlanta (2-1) - New England all but shut down the Falcons offense. The Falcons defense though did a fairly good job keeping the Pats out of the endzone. The next 4 games for ATL are against winning teams so we'll see just how good they are soon. NEXT: Bye Week

5. San Francisco (2-1) - Time for me to give in and call this team a contender. Mike Singletary has motivated this team. The defense has greatly improved since last season. The offense has too, but losing Frank Gore hurts a ton. NEXT vs. St. Louis

6. Philadelphia (2-1) - The Michael Vick experiment is underway. He didn't make much of an impact against KC but he didn't need to. Getting Donovan McNabb healthy is more important that getting Vick involved in that offense too. NEXT: Bye Week

7. Green Bay (2-1) - After that devastating loss to Cincinnati, the Pack Attack stormed into St. Louis and smoked the Rams. Aaron Rodgers continues to impress under center by really taking charge of that offense. Huge division game next week. NEXT MON @ Minnesota

8. Chicago (2-1) - The Bears have to be excited about the start of the Jay Cutler era. He has cut down on his mistakes but not on his great play ability. Meanwhile, the defense came up big when it needed to down the stretch. NEXT vs. Detroit

9. Dallas (2-1) - Funny how the Cowboys win when Tony Romo doesn't account for 4 turnovers. Though Romo didn't play his best game ever, he had a rushing attack he could depend on. That and the Cowboys D shut down the Panthers offense. NEXT @ Denver

10. Arizona (1-2) - Forget how bad the offense looked against the Colts. The big worry has to be the defense. And with San Francisco looking like they are the best in the division right now, the Cards better use the bye week to straighten things out. NEXT: Bye Week

11. Seattle (1-2) - Seneca Wallace played admirably in relief of Matt Hasselbeck. A couple of missed field goals really hurt Seattle but the defense not stopping the Bears late hurt more. Getting Hasselbeck back would help, especially Indy next. NEXT @ Indianapolis

12. Carolina (0-3) - They are better than 0-3 but they deserve to be 0-3. They haven't played well in 4 quarters yet. And that's the offense and defense. The schedule won't get any easier so they're gonna have to grit some games out. NEXT: Bye Week

13. Detroit (1-2) - Now that the 19-game losing streak is over, maybe fans and pundits can talk about this team. Matthew Stafford has been average at QB but he hasn't had much help with the run attack. Defense played well against WAS but who wouldn't? NEXT @ Chicago

14. Washington (1-2)- I'm not sure why Jim Zorn's head is on the chopping block. Looking at the roster at the beginning of the season, this looked like a below average team. Jason Campbell may not make it in the NFL after all. NEXT vs. Tampa Bay

15. Tampa Bay (0-3) - Apparently, Byron Leftwich wasn't doing enough so the team has made a change at QB to Josh Johnson. I don't think that move will help in any way keep this team from dropping 12 or maybe 13 games this season. NEXT @ Washington

16. St. Louis (0-3) - All Rams fans were hoping they'd see a better team play once they played their first home game. But that wasn't the case at all. The defense hasn't showed the capability to stop a good offense. And the Rams don't even have a good offense. NEXT @ San Francisco

1 comment:

  1. Okay, so I'm a bit confused.

First of all, you need to do a PREVIOUS WEEK RANKING so we can see how far teams have dropped or gained in your power rankings.

If my memory serves me correctly, you had Indy as the top team in the AFC after two weeks, with Baltimore second.

But after week three, when Baltimore beat a hapless Cleveland team AT HOME, and Indy beats a decent Arizona team on a short week ON THE ROAD, you give the Ravens the top spot?

Don't get me wrong, I think you have it right, but based off last week's rankings you should still have Indy #1 and Baltimore #2.
